Your Labrador Retriever has been bred from temperamentally sound parents who have been certified to be free of hip dysplasia and inherited eye defects as well as any congenital heart problems. Your puppy has been examined by a veterinarian and a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist, and has been inoculated with the appropriate vaccinations. Stool checks have been done on at least one occasion, and the puppy has been treated if parasites were present. The breeder will advise you of any continuing treatment that may be required.

GUARANTEE:

It is understood that, at the time of sale, this puppy has been evaluated by the breeder with respect to other representatives of the breed at approximately the same age and has been determined to be structurally and temperamentally suited to be a companion, hunting, and/or obedience dog. This does not necessarily imply that the dog is of breeding or show quality. This puppy is guaranteed to be healthy upon delivery to the buyer, and a full refund will be given for any puppy found to be unhealthy within 30 days of purchase, provided the following is met:

The puppy must be examined by a veterinarian of the buyer's choice within three days after purchase. If the puppy is found to be ill, the breeder is to be notified within 24 hours and a refund of the purchase price will follow the return of the puppy and all papers to the breeder, including a written statement from the attending veterinarian stating the dog's condition. During the remainder of the initial 30-day period, the buyer shall maintain the puppy's schedule of innoculations and shall initiate heartworm medication according to the schedule recommended by their veterinarian. The next set of puppy shots is due on ______________. Based on our experience and upon the recommendation of our personal veterinarian, we use the product known as "Interceptor" as our heartworm preventative. We use this product because of its ability to prevent other parasites (e.g., hookworm and whipworm). We recommend that you discuss this with your Vet.

No other health guarantee is given except in the case of a hereditary defect which develops to the extent that it renders the dog unsuitable as a pet within two years of the date of this sale. In this instance, a replacement will be given as soon as one is available, or a refund of 50% of the purchase price will be given at the breeder's option. If the dog has been bred or is over the age of 24 months this portion of the agreement is voided. It is not necessary to return the dog to the breeder or have the dog destroyed to collect on this agreement; however, the dog must be neutered or spayed with proof of same provided to the breeder in writing from your veterinarian.

If the dog is used heavily for field trialing, open obedience, hunting, or any other strenuous activity (including "roading") prior to its being one year of age, environmentally induced dysplasia and other joint problems may develop. If these factors occur, it is left to the breeder's discretion to honor this agreement. The buyer should also educate himself to proper nutrition of the dog so as not to induce joint problems by either lack of nutrition or by causing an overweight condition in a developing dog.

BREEDING, SPAY/NEUTER, AND REGISTRATION STATUS:

The buyer, in the interest of maintaining quality in the Labrador breed, agrees to the following:

In the interests of protecting the Labrador breed and not contributing unnecessarily to the problem of pet overpopulation, the breeder is selling this puppy on AKC Limited Registration. AKC Limited Registration means that the dog is registered but no litters produced by the dog are eligible for AKC Registration. Dogs with Limited Registration may not be entered in breed competition at Dog Shows but may compete in all other AKC events. The breeder may later apply to change this designation and have the dog given Full Registration privileges, but a fee and special application are required by the AKC for this change. The breeder agrees to apply to change this designation to Full Registration upon the receipt of a written statement from a licensed veterinarian that this dog has been spayed/neutered.

SPECIAL PROVISION ON EARLY SPAY/NEUTER: You will likely be encouraged by your veterinarian to spay or neuter your puppy at an early age - some as early as four months. You have been provided with articles and information which describe the negative impact of early spay/neuter on the long term health of your puppy. While we fully support spay/neuter as a means of preventing pet over-population, we strongly discourage the practice of EARLY spay/neuter. Ultimately, the decision is yours. However, as a means of discouraging this practice, ALL GUARANTEES EXPRESSED ELSEWHERE IN THIS DOCUMENT ARE NULL AND VOID IF:

  • Males are neutered before 18 months of age
  • Females are spayed before 14 month of age

In recognition of the fact that some buyers eventually develop a serious interest in the sport and hobby of purebred dogs, including possibly breeding quality puppies, the following stipulation is included: the buyer agrees that if it becomes his/her desire to breed this dog and produce carefully planned AKC puppies, he/she will not do so without first consulting the breeder. This dog has been carefully bred, and the buyer agrees to breed only to dogs which have been certified to be free of hip dysplasia and inherited eye defects. In the event the buyer decides that he/she desires to breed this dog, the breeder MAY agree to apply to change the Limited Registration to Full Registration if the following conditions are met:

1. The buyer provides written evidence from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) that the dog is free of hip and elbow dysplasia at a minimum age of 24 months.

2. The buyer provides written evidence from a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist that the dog is free of inherited eye anomalies, within six months of the request to change registration status.

3. The buyer has the breeder re-evaluate the dog structurally and temperamentally and the breeder indicates that the dog is suitable for use as breeding stock.

4. The dog's appearance has not been altered in any way by artificial means.

5. The buyer provides the breeder with the pedigree of the animal to which this dog is to be bred so that the breeder can offer the buyer the benefit of experience in determining if unacceptable conditions are likely to occur as a result of the breeding.

RETURN AGREEMENT:

The buyer agrees that if he/she is unable to keep this Labrador Retriever, he/she will not sell, give away, or otherwise dispose of this dog without first contacting the breeder, who will either accept the dog on a return basis or assist the buyer in finding a suitable alternative home for the dog. This does not imply a financial commitment on the part of the breeder.

OTHER PROVISIONS:

The buyer agrees to provide a suitable environment for this dog and will not allow it to run loose in an unsupervised situation. The buyer agrees to not leave this dog in a car in hot temperatures without adequate ventilation and shade, or allow it to be transported in the back of an open vehicle without being confined in a kennel crate.

The buyer agrees to keep this dog current on the required immunizations.

It is left to the breeder's discretion to honor this contract in that the buyer is aware that any failure to follow the stated agreements may cause the agreement to become null and void.
